An Iraqi diplomatic delegation to meet with a number of US officials to discuss security issues during a visit to Washington, a source revealed on Monday.
The delegation is composed of representatives of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s office, National Security Council, Counter Terrorism Service (CTS), the Army and Federal Police as well as representatives of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Helgord Hekmat, the spokesman of Peshmerga Ministry, said that the delegation met with US officials in the Pentagon, noting that it will meet US State Department officials later on.
The security delegation aims to promote ties between the two countries, Hekmat stated, adding that this can be achieved by Washington’s support for the Iraqi forces, particularly the Peshmerga forces in Kurdistan Region.
The Iraqi PM presided Sunday a national security ministerial meeting.
The meeting tackled the latest victory against ISIS terror group and preparation for post-ISIS era.
