US oil company Chevron said on Tuesday that it resumed drilling operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
“Chevron can confirm that it has resumed its activities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and we resumed drilling operations in our field Sarta 3,” said Sally Jones, a spokeswoman for the company.
The company temporarily suspended operations in the region in October after a referendum on independence sparked tensions between Baghdad and the quasi-independent provincial government.
Before that, Chevron dug in September an oil well in its square in Kurdistan after a two-year standoff with the restoration of confidence in the region despite an international dispute over the referendum plan for the independence of the region.
