The Invest in Iraq Conference, held on the sidelines of the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq, concluded its work at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the participation of a group of representatives of private sector institutions from around the world.
“The Kuwait International Conference on Iraq Reconstruction is the beginning of the security and development phase in the region,” Kuwait Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ali al-Ghanim said at the opening session of the conference.
“Kuwait does not consider the conference merely a new experience that is dedicated to Kuwait’s regional, Arab and international role. It is a pioneering experiment in restoring Arab-Arab relations from the perspective of the future and common interests,” he added.
In turn, the head of the National Investment Commission in Iraq, Dr. Sami Araji said at the same session that “Iraq has become a liberated country with a stable economy without restrictions on the transfer of assets and funds.”
He added that “the agricultural sector in Iraq is an excellent opportunity to invest in view of Iraq’s need for food security, calling at the same time to invest in industrial sectors and oil.”
Araji said, “Plans to develop transport and rail links from Baghdad to Mosul and then linked to the Silk Road to China through Iran.”

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced on Wednesday the launch of a strategic plan for the reconstruction of Iraq after the expulsion of “Dahesh” from all its territory, while stressing not to stop fighting corruption as no less dangerous than terrorism, he pointed out that Iraq will be a bridge of convergence rather than a battlefield.
“The government has launched a strategic plan for the reconstruction of the areas affected by terrorism,” Abadi said in a speech at the opening of the ministerial meeting of the Iraq reconstruction conference and his follower, “Information”, noting that “this plan will be a platform of action, taking into account the priority.”
“Today, we are consolidating the concept that Iraq is a bridge to meet rather than a battlefield, and that Iraq is a space for common understandings and a gateway for the exchange of interests, benefits, visions and ideas,” Abadi said.
Abadi stressed the need to “continue the process of supporting stability in the liberated areas,” pointing out that “Iraq suffered from the decline of development because of terrorism.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich declared Iraq ready to reform the financial and economic sectors.
Guterich said in his speech to the Iraq reconstruction conference held in Kuwait, “The United Nations development programs are working in 25 areas in Iraq to help Iraqis and develop their living reality.”
“The United Nations is launching a grant program that will help repair infrastructure, improve the day-to-day and help improve economic reforms and revitalize the affected areas,” he said.

Iraq received nearly 11 billion dollars from Arab and foreign countries during the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, said that “the kingdom has allocated $ 1.5 billion for reconstruction projects in Iraq and the financing of Saudi exports to it.”
While the Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Javishoglu, during the conference, to provide five billion dollars to support the reconstruction of Iraq.
Iraq also received $ 100 million as a contribution from Australia to reconstruction, while Britain pledged up to $ 1 billion a year to Iraq in the form of export credit over 10 years.
Germany announced at the Kuwait conference that it will provide aid to Iraq worth 350 million euros in 2018, and the UAE announced a pledge of 500 million dollars for the reconstruction of Iraqi cities.
Finland has donated $ 10 million to carry out humanitarian projects in Iraq and has pledged to train Iraqi forces.
While Qatar allocated one billion dollars in the form of loans and investments and export facilities for its products in Iraq.
The Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, announced at the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq, on Wednesday, that his country will allocate $ 2 billion in accordance with the mechanism of Kuwait Fund for the reconstruction of Iraq and encourage investment in it. Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi on Wednesday held a series of meetings with a number of officials on the sidelines of the Iraq reconstruction conference held in Kuwait.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and discussed bilateral cooperation and supporting Saudi Arabia to rebuild Iraq after the victories over terrorist gangs and the situation in the region.
Abadi also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in all fields, in addition to discussing the situation in the region.
Zarif expressed “his country’s full support for Iraq in the field of reconstruction after the victory achieved on gangs calling for terrorism and the unification of the country,” stressing that “his country’s keenness to cooperate with Iraq in all fields.” He pointed out that “Iranian companies have a great desire to work in Iraq.”
Al-Abbadi also met with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. During the meeting, he presented an initiative by UNESCO on the city of Mosul to serve as an example of cultural diversity and the work of UNESCO in Iraq.
Abadi also met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovic. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the reconstruction of Iraq and the entry of Russian companies to invest in it, in addition to the situation in the region.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of Putin and the Russian Prime Minister, “Russia’s full support for Iraq in the reconstruction and contribute to its reconstruction, and there are many large investment projects Russian.”
