Barzani and McGurk Review Anti-IS Military Campaign
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani and Brett McGurk, the US Special Presidential Envoy to the Global Coalition against the Islamic State (IS) discussed the anti-IS military efforts in Iraq and Syria.
Barzani received on Monday a US delegation headed by Brett McGurk and consisted of Douglass Silliman, the US Ambassador to Iraq and Ken Gross, the US Consul General in Erbil.
The parties reviewed the Mosul campaign and the developments of the battle against IS in the city. They also exchanged views about the challenges of the post-IS phase in Mosul.
McGurk reiterated on the continued US military support for the Peshmerga forces, stressing the importance of the Kurdistan Region to the US.
The sides moreover exchanged views on the political and security situation in Syria as well as the plans for defeating the IS group in the country.
The future of the relations between Baghdad and Erbil were also among the topics of the discussions between the parties.
